I had surgery on my 5th metatarsal on June 26th. The doctor gave me an aircast, which i take on and off for showers. I asked a number of people (including a nurse) if it would be acceptable to swim after stitches, and they said it was fine, as long as I don't kick my foot or put any weight on it. After swimming (or more like floating), my stitches looked completely fine. I was wondering if I made a mistake to swim with stitches, considering from what I've read on the internet, that it is harmful to swim in a pool with stitches, since pools contain chemicals that dissolve stitches, which can lead to an infection. Did I make a mistake swimming?

No, you should be fine. Just make sure to keep the area clean and you shouldn't have any problems. The nurses wouldn't have told you you could swim if it would have been a problem

My boyfriend went swimming with his stitches, and it didn't hurt them at all. If the nurse said that it would be alright, then I'm sure it'll be fine.

that depends on if they are dissolving stitches or not. I would guess they are not. Did they tell you you have to take them out/come back to have them taken out? If so you are fine, they will not dissolve.

if you waited 24hrs before taking a plunge no problem but be sure to immediately dry the area and clean it 3 times a day with soap and water.

It probably isn't ture. You can't beleive everything you hear on the internet. I would beleive the nurse more than the internet.

It depends if you swam in a public pool or personal pool
