I broke my fibula (leg bone broken right above my ankle) about 2 weeks ago. I had a cast for a week and then it was taken off and i was given a boot kinda thing. I can take it off and scratch and stuff so its not too bad, but I need it for another few weeks anyway. But, my question is... WHY IN THE WORLD IS IT SO ITCHY???

Its the skin. Put a good moisturizer on it when you have it out of the boot.

Try not to scratch, as that'll make it itch all that much more because of the little cuts and scrapes you cause when you scratch.

When your broken leg itches, elevate it at a level above your heart (so, for example, you could lay down with your leg up on a pile of pillows).

You'll lessen the blood flow and reduce swelling. That's usually enough to reduce the itching.

If elevation alone doesn't help, elevate and ice it. With your leg elevated, put an ice pack (with cloth between it and your skin to prevent ice burn!) over the fractured area lightly (prevent putting pressure on it) for 20 minutes, then take it off for 10 minutes.

Both elevation and ice will also help in the healing process.

Remember, when it comes to broken bones RICE is nice (Rest - Ice - Compression - Elevation)

Have you spoken with your GP? Have you had psychotherapy or any kind of cognitive behavioural therapy in the past? Your GP will be able to put you in touch with your local improving access to psychological therapies service (IAPT). Such visions can be quite disturbing and impact on our day-to-day mood and behaviour. So you have a number of options: Understand where they have come from and put a stop to them OR simply learn how to put a stop to them (depending on which type of treatment you choose). GP's can also prescribe medication for these things but that is your choice. What you don't want is to act on any of your visions or the visions become so strong that you just cannot face the day or the world. Help is at hand. Might be good to talk it over with someone no? When I was depressed I had all sorts of visions... but they disappeared as the depression reduced. I guess its depression on the brain, it can play tricks, make our thinking foggy and we have disturbing visions that go with it at times. It is made worse when we are tired or have not slept properly. So keep an eye on things like diet if you have not yet. Hope you manage to find the help you are looking for.

I badly sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago. I was in a hurry going down the stairs, lost my balance and landed on a bad side of my left foot, causing my left ankle to be stretched going on the inside. The first 48 hours were excruciating and the pain was un-believable. I've never had a serious ankle injury before.

So I immediately treated it using the RICE method. The following day, the bruising and swelling were so horrible. I found out that I got a second degree sprain and immediately panicked after that. I had a football game on that week and it been looking forward to it because I've been training for rt. I had teammates that had similar injuries and it took them months to fully recover, some of them stopped playing altogether. So I kinda had a short-term depression because I can't imagine myself not being able to run and play sports anymore.

Because I was so desperate to recover again, I contacted a lot of people that I know who do sports and asked them if they had similar injuries. One friend of mine, from the boy's football team in my university, told me about H.E.M. Ankle Rehab. I got a copy 4 days after I got injured. I immediately read and followed what was instructed and felt improvement on the first day. I was able to walk a bit, but I was in pain.

A couple of days after that, the swelling and bruising were subsid-ing significantly and on the fourth day, I was walking comfortably again. Although I've had felt a bit of stiffness, I continued doing what was instructed. My sister was surprised that I have recovered this fast. I told her about this book and was shocked on how effective the procedures were. I'm just so happy that this book was shared to me and how effective it is.

Heal your ankle fully & fast?

The itching and burning (from my experience) is your bone healing.
